Thanks to Vance Holub, a junior at Jesuit College Prepatory, the Santa Fe Trail has a new rest area.
“I wanted to be a part of a project that would benefit the whole community,” explains Holub, who created the respite area to fulfill an Eagle Scout project. “Improving a local trail gave me the opportunity to do just that.”
Holub raised $10,700 for the endeavor via GoFundMe. Friends of the Santa Fe Trail donated the remaining $8,300 necessary to bring his vision to life.
On December 12, the Dallas Park and Recreation Department hosted a ceremony honoring Holub and his efforts. Those benches were warmed for the first time.
