The first week that school was back in session, Girl Scout Troop 8307 didn’t waste any time collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey victims.
Roughly 22 Withers Elementary students are part of the troop, says parent-volunteer Ken Capps. They collected diapers, children’s underwear, bottled water and other items that families needed.
The donations were given to the Red Cross, who distributed them to emergency shelters in Dallas and the Houston area.
For Capps, it was amazing that “people left stuff at the school after it closed, and no one took it,” he says.
