The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries announced a $500,000 award to Dallas ISD due to the October 2019 tornado. The award, which was awarded on Nov. 19, was specifically given to Thomas Jefferson High School, Francisco “Pancho” Medrano Middle School and Walnut Hill PK-8.

“The tornadoes last fall destroyed parts of the Dallas community, including some of the schools our children attend. I am thrilled the Laura Bush Foundation will support three Dallas ISD school libraries affected by the storm,” former First Lady and Preston Hollow neighbor Laura Bush says in a release. “With the grant, these libraries will be restocked with new books so Dallas students can read and learn for years to come.”

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries has awarded more than $16 million to more than 2,800 schools across the country since its founding in 2002. The organization has helped a significant number of schools in the Dallas area. Read more about the organization here.
