Students at Sudie TAG and Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Academy placed in the top 10 at a recent math and science competition.
The kids and other Dallas ISD middle-schoolers participated in the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association state competition in San Antonio on April 2.
A team from Sudie placed seventh in the science category, and a Franklin team placed 10th in mathematics.
From Sudie, sixth-grader Ian Arana placed fifth in science for the 6A division; seventh-grader Declan Shopoff placed sixth in number sense; and sixth-grader Grant Bowers placed seventh in science.
In the science test, middle-school students are quizzed on earth and life science.
The number sense test is a 10-minute, 80-question mental math test covering all middle school courses. Shortcuts need to be developed and practiced to finish the test.
There’s not a specific description of the content covered in the math exam on the competition website.
