Lyda Hill

Dallas philanthropist and entrepreneur Lyda Hill will be recognized for her philanthropy with a prestigious award next Thursday.

The Hockaday alumna will be one of five people receiving the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in New York. Named in honor of Andrew Carnegie, the medal is considered one of the most prestigious honors a philanthropist can receive for contributing to challenges facing the world.

Hill has invested in life science, health research and STEM fields and efforts encouraging more girls interested in STEM.

“I’m gratified and have been inspired by Carnegie’s business acumen and philanthropy,” Hill told Dallas News. “It will be a token I will treasure of the impressive legacy he inspired.”

The medal for philanthropy has been awarded since 2001. The four remaining honorees this year are Manu Chandaria, Dolly Parton, Lynn and Stacy Schusterman.
