Thousands attend annual Discover Dallas ISD event

November is Homeless Youth Awareness Month, and the district’s Homeless Education Program (HEP) is working hard to help families and students in this situation to connect with vital resources like food, counseling, transportation, uniforms, and much more. Throughout this month, HEP is hosting multiple events to raise community awareness and funds to help students and families in need. To learn more about HEP and the activities planned for this month, visit www.dallasisd.org/HEP.

Highlighting District 1

I want to recognize Principal Jacob Johnson and his team at Stephen C. Foster Elementary School for pursuing initiatives to encourage their students’ learning and understanding of the world around them. Earlier this month, the school was among the schools receiving Texas YES grants to promote STEAM projects in Dallas ISD.

Also, earlier this month, Foster’s students, teachers, and volunteers also participated in an event to plant trees on campus grounds as part of the Cool Schools Program. This initiative by the Texas Trees Foundation aims to connect students and teachers to nature by creating fun and engaging outdoor experiential learning areas.

Discover event kicks off application period

Dallas ISD kick-started the application period for the district’s choice programs for the 2023-2024 school year with our annual Discover Dallas ISD event. As you all know, our district has more than 100 choice schools and programs available across different schools. Among the academic offerings available are programs like P-TECH, International Baccalaureate, single-gender schools, Montessori programs, and much more.

For more information about the programs offered and how to find the best-fit school for your children, visit www.dallasisd.org/choosedallasisd, or for Spanish, www.dallasisd.org/descubre.

Thanksgiving meals for students

From Monday, Nov. 21, through Friday, Nov. 25, Dallas ISD will be closed for Thanksgiving break. However, to ensure that all our students have access to nutritious food during this time, some schools will continue to provide free meals for children younger than 18 and students up to 21 years old with disabilities. To find a school location near you, visit www.Dallasisd.org/FCNS.
