Three years after the October 2019 tornado damaged Thomas Jefferson High School, the school has reopened.

Students will complete the 2022-2023 school year at the newly renovated campus. Thomas Jefferson’s campus retained most of the original building with refurbishments and additions.

The school also added about 152,000 square feet to the existing 171,000-square-foot campus. The additions include a new gym, athletic improvements, renovations of existing educational spaces, new computer science labs, a library and administrative areas.

Walnut Hill Elementary School, which was also damaged in the tornado, has a new 118,000-square-foot campus replacing the old campus and Cary Middle School. Students will finish out the school year there.
