Texas isn’t shy about its burger skills and the ones in our neighborhood know how to turn up the heat for National Cheeseburger Day. From classic digs to new staples, here is a roundup of five local favorites to take a bite out of today.

  1. Dugg Burger

Dugg Burger knows the customer is always right and at this joint, the customer gets to decide how to stack their meal. The restaurant is modeled in a build-your-own, go-down-the-line style, offering a bun or bowl at first and then guests choose their protein, cheese and sauces.

     2. Liberty Burger

Liberty Burger is a Dallas-owned business from Mariel Street and her brothers. She’s the offspring of restauranteer, Gene Street who was behind Black Eyed Pea, Cantina Laredo and Good Eats. Liberty Burger serves eight proteins for all burgers including their namesake, Liberty Burger, a stack of the essentials: tomato, lettuce, onions and pickles. Each month, they do a Burger of the Month, with $1 of each burger’s proceeds goes towards the Staff Support Fund which is then awarded to a deserving staff member once quarterly.

     3. Chip’s

A hometown favorite since 1981 with its location on Lovers Lane near the Tollway before opening with other outposts in Lakewood and Plano. Chip’s has seven proteins and the option to do a double stack and also offers salads, spuds and local craft beer on tap.

They have their “cheffed-up” burgers for those wanting to eat on the fancy side as well as the classic sandwiches. The option for burger lovers to make their own also offers a differente experience.
