The Frontiers of Flight Museum announced its upcoming gala, “A New Frontier” on Oct. 7 to introduce the museum’s plan to enter a new era, with a keynote speech from the first black woman astronaut.

The museum will unveil its new strategy titled “DESTINATION: Frontiers” which will be led by the museum’s new CEO Abigail Erickson-Torres. It will focus on three pillars: sustaining museum operations, rekindling interest and building enjoyment for future generations. These changes will focus on bringing more diversity and inclusion in the exhibits while focusing on improving aerospace STEM education for a better guest experience.

Following the program, a VIP reception will be held at Love Field, featuring a dinner crafted by acclaimed chef Peja Krstic, live music performed by Ricki Derek & Band and a live auction.

“Frontiers of Flight Museum was created to capture the awe of the past, present and future of aviation and space, Erickson-Torres said. “Through the fundraising at events like our 2023 gala, we will sustain this great community resource and be the pathway for young kids, teens and adults from diverse backgrounds, with a focus this next year on girls, to connect to careers in the aerospace industry through our mentoring, workforce solutions, education programs and so much more.”

The museum will be joined by the record-setting astronaut, Dr. Sian Proctor was the first black woman to pilot a spacecraft and will speak at the event. Dr. Proctor piloted the SpaceX Inspiration4, the first all-civilian orbital mission. Her presentation will cover topics of equity and equality in space, along with strategies to achieve justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity (J.E.D.I) in both space and on Earth.

Erickson-Torres, the new CEO, will engage in a Q&A session with Dr. Proctor.

“We can’t wait to share a magical evening with guests, all to raise awareness and funds as we build a stronger community,” event chair Brinker said. “We need a fun place for families to connect over the love of aviation and space travel. You can sense the excitement as we move forward to create opportunities to play, work, learn and experience joy and belonging in our community.”
