Another thriller from Preston Hollow-based author J.K Franko entitled “Killing Johnny Miracle” is set to release this fall with a launch event on Oct. 7 at The Mason.

In Raul Calvoz’s new book, better known by his pseudonym J.K. Franko, illustrates a spiraling whodunit story set in Fredericksburg. Johnny Miracle’s wife is not the only one who feels motivated to end him. Following his other titles such as the Roy Cruise series, Franko uses regional and Western elements to weave into his storytelling. This is the first one set around the Fredericksburg area.

“He does such a great job at character development and making the right characters despicable, but charming where you really don’t know which way it’s going to go,” his team said. “There’s a lot of modern day elements because it’s set in Fredericksburg and Austin. That feels very fast-paced, but then it also kind of plays on the traditional modernized Western elements. He also does a great job at weaving in some really great proverbial wits that come in interesting ways. He makes it such a fast-paced, fun thriller read.”

Franko is a lawyer turned crime fiction author and has published a few books since 2018. The first draft of his last book, Killing Johnny Miracle, was written in 10 days while his son was in the hospital.

“He always brings that world of academia specifically with law and justice into the works that he’s writing about,” his team said. “His wife was the one that was encouraging him. ‘You’ve always wanted to do this so put it out there.’ So finding ways to that creative vulnerability and how to step into it. It’s neat to see this come out and how he created this world of such interesting characters.”

The book launch on Oct. 7 will be an immersive experience with elements from the book blending into the event. There will be complimentary drinks and bites followed by a Q&A session with the author. As the night continues, guests will be able to interact with a live case, examine evidence and take part in a live poll and a live action jury panel.

“It will have the story recreated throughout different elements throughout the chain of events,” his team said. “I think it will bring a nice touch to the story.”
