What was your journey to becoming principal like?

I was a high school Spanish teacher for twenty-one years. I loved being in the classroom, but I also love being a student. When I had the opportunity to be a part of the first cohort of SMU’s Accelerated School Leadership Program (ASLP), I jumped without the intention of becoming a principal, but rather wanting to continue to learn and grow.

Through the ASLP I realized that I could serve and impact even more students in school leadership, and I really started to see the “big picture,” so I decided to pursue an administrative role. I started as a grade-level team lead at Greenhill School, then became an assistant principal at Lake Highlands High School. Shortly after I became an assistant principal at Bryan Adams High School, which led me to my role as principal at Dealey Montessori and International Academy. Finally, I landed my dream job here at W.T. White High School.

What do you love about being a longhorn?

I love being a Longhorn because of the students, families, and staff who collectively create a vibrant and supportive community. It’s truly inspiring to be part of an environment where traditions are not just upheld but cherished as a testament to the unity and pride that define us.  What sets this community apart is our unwavering commitment to living out our vision, mission and values on a daily basis. It’s not just about words on a page; it’s about the genuine dedication we have to making a positive impact on each other.

What is your main focus for your campus this year?

Our main focus is for all students to have what they need to be successful, because we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. To achieve this, we are dedicated to building meaningful relationships with our students, recognizing that a supportive and caring environment is the foundation upon which their success is built. Additionally, we recognize the invaluable role that co-and- extracurricular programs play. Our exemplary programs are designed to provide students with a well-rounded experience, allowing them to explore their interests beyond the classroom to help foster teamwork, leadership skills and personal growth.
