After the departure of the former principal Christina Ibarra, George Bannerman Dealey Montessori and International Academy welcomes Amber Garrett as the new principal.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, Dealey announced the former assistant principal, Amber Garrett as the new principal. Garrett was a Dallas ISD student herself from elementary through high school. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas in Denton and pursued her master’s in instructional design at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Garrett started her teaching career in Richardson ISD.

Later, she joined The Barrack Obama Male Leadership Academy as the campus instructional coach before transitioning to the assistant principal for three years. Prior to her principal role at Dealey, she was the assistant principal.

“Her hope is that all students have engaging ways to interact with their learning,” a letter to the Dealey community states. “She is a firm advocate of Montessori and inquiry-based learning experiences for all students.”

This decision was made by a community panel within two weeks following Cristina Ibarra’s leave who was reassigned to another campus in Dallas ISD. This week, the school is focused on its search for a new assistant principal which will be determined later this month or early November.

“I appreciate everyone’s support during this transition in leadership,” Ibarra said in an email last month. “I will always have the best interest of Dealey students, staff and community in my heart.”
