On Oct. 3, Nexus Recovery Center, the largest female-only substance use disorders center in Texas, broke ground on its new Doswell Medical Building for a new campaign geared at expanding capacity.

Earlier this year, North Dallas organization, Doswell Medical, donated a $4 million grant to Nexus Recovery Center for a new medical facility on its campus.  The new $86 million multi-phase campaign, Recovery Rising, will focus on expanding its capacity and continuing to treat women with substance use disorders and accommodating their children up to age 12.

“The Doswell Foundation has supported Nexus for many years, believing in its dedicated mission of recovery for each and every woman entering treatment,” Doswell Foundation chairman and CEO, Beverly Fricke, said in a statement. “The Doswell Medical Building will be the keystone to Nexus’ long-term future and the beginning of a new life for the women and their children who enter the program. Our investment in Nexus demonstrates our shared belief in compassionate care in an up-to-date facility and program, thus restoring dignity to the women and their children who have trusted Nexus with their journey toward turning their lives around.”

According to Nexus, on average the facility sees 2,500 women and children a year. With the grant and expansion of the facility, capacity will be doubled. The new building is expected to be completed by 2024 and it’s expected that the entire campus will be rebuilt by 2031. The new building will replace the existing Doswell Detox Center and will be placed along La Prada Drive, intentionally providing more immediate access for new and outpatient clients. It will also serve as a more private entrance to improve the safety of women and children on campus.

The Doswell Foundation grant will be a catalyst for the long-term campus plan. According to Nexus Recovery, the Doswell Medical Building will house Nexus’ industry-leading Medicated Assisted Treatment program, a campus medical room, physician exam rooms, nurse practitioners, UT Southwestern psychiatric fellows and Parkland obstetric residency rotations. It will also feature a state-of-the-art 16-bed medical detox facility named after former Nexus CEO Rebecca Crowell.
