The City of Dallas is offering safety tips and resources for the community as cold weather moves through this week.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has compiled a checklist for winter weather emergency kits and a guide for drivers and homeowners. Drivers are advised to ensure their vehicles have up-to-date maintenance, slow down and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

The OEM recommends homeowners protect pipes by wrapping them, allowing facets to run and blocking any drafts from windows or doors.

The Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) has activated a temporary shelter at Fair Park, which will remain open until the weather improves. Bus transportation to Fair Park is available throughout the city and OHS is accepting volunteers.

Additional warming centers in North Dallas, such as Marcus Park Recreation Center, Walnut Hill Recreation Center, NorthPark Bookmarks and more are available. A full list of warming centers at parks and libraries can be found on their website.

Each warming center projects to stay open through the weekend.
