A section of land owned by the Park Forest Library is now included in the initial phase of the Dallas Greening Initiative.

The city-owned property at the corner of  Marsh Lane and High Vista Drive was acquired in 2006 for the prospective construction of a new Park Forest Library and has remained vacant and unused for an extended period. According to the Trust for Public Land, the land is now part of the Dallas Greening Initiative, which aims to transform city-owned properties in areas lacking greenspace within a 10-minute walk. A segment of this land, intended for the new library site, will be designated as green space.

“You may not be able to understand how excited your Councilperson is that this sleepy parcel will now have a portion carved out for park activation by this greening effort and that the Libraries proposition in the 2024 bond includes construction of a new library,” City Council member for District 13 Gay Donnell Willis said.

A public community meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., invites neighbors to discuss their preferences for utilizing the park space.
