I just got of the phone with a very happy but humble Karen Puckett. This Franklin language arts teacher was just named one of the four finalists for DISD Teacher of the Year.

“I am thrilled, surprised and honored,” she says. “But it’s really not all about me—it’s also about our students, our schools, our district and our neighborhood as a whole. They’re all a part of this, too.”

Puckett, who has been an educator for 24 years, has lived here in Preston Hollow for more than 30 years—and both her kids also went through our neighborhood schools.

She won’t find out for several weeks whether or not she gets the award, but she’s happy to just be named a finalist. And I’m sure she’s not alone—I’m willing to bet there are a whole lot of very proud Falcons out there, and rightfully so.
