“The materials are warm and comfortable — from the cork floor to the brick that was used, the stained glass — the combination of all those creates a very comfortable space. The building today has qualities that worked 50 years ago, and they should work 50 years from now. It was designed from the street in, and so the garden spaces are basically outdoor rooms, and interior spaces work seamlessly from outdoors to indoors.”

9400 Rockbrook, Gillin House by Frank Lloyd Wright
“It’s such a great, uplifting experience to see something so well put-together and that sits and reposes on the land so beautifully. There’s a certain desire to be able to find within yourself the ability to pull together, in concert, all those things about a house. And you see it done so well, and you go, ‘OK, it can be done. Whatever project we’re working on, we can pull this off.’ There’s a certain humbleness, even though it’s a really big house … it almost hides itself down on the ground.”

Glen Lakes development
“Glen Lakes is the best-laid area that I can think of for Preston Hollow, in that it has taken advantage of the topography. They really developed the lots very efficiently. I think people have enjoyed living there; I think they get a bonus for living there. A development like that couldn’t be done unless you had all the land together and developed it as a cohesive project.”
