It’s hard to believe, but school starts in just one week. If you’ve got kids heading back, here are some of our neighborhood happenings and events to keep on your radar:

Aug. 20 back-to-school celebration in the WT White High School auditorium from 6-8 p.m. The cheerleaders, Caballeras, Showstoppers and more will perform. There will also be information booths for those interested in school clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

Aug. 22 North Dallas Early Childhood PTA annual membership roundup at Northaven Park from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Aug. 22 community garden clean up at Kramer Elementary—volunteers are welcome, just contact Lisa Gewax at vemrg@swbell.net

August 21-23 Tax Free weekend: This session, the Texas Legislature voted to expand the sales tax holiday to include many basic and needed school supplies, along with clothing, footwear and backpacks all priced under $100.

Hillcrest High School is looking for neighborhood businesses that are interested in sponsoring a Hillcrest Business Career Co-op student. This would be a paid internship. The student would work a minimum of 15 hours per week in the afternoons with supervised training within the business office, e.g. filing, phone, computer data entry, accounting.
