More than 40 years after he made mankind’s last step on the moon, Eugene Cernan set foot on the red carpet at the Frontiers of Flight Museum’s 2013 gala Saturday night, joining several guest astronauts for the event that honored NASA and Congressman Ralph Hall of the 4th District of Texas.

Among Cernan’s fellow space travelers in attendance were Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell, Walt Cunningham, Alan Bean, Eileen Collins, Fred Haise, Tom Henricks, Mike Lopez-Alegria and Mary Ellen Weber.

The astronauts were among a crowd of more than 500 dapper and dazzling Dallasites.

Hall was presented with the George E. Haddaway Award for Achievement in Aviation for his commitment to science, space and aviation. Hall, the oldest person to ever serve in the House, spoke briefly. He discussed the importance of the space program and found time for a salty joke as well. He’ll turn 90 on May 3.
