Philanthropists gathered last week at the interior design boutique Antek’s Curated in Preston Center to kick off the Friends of Wednesday’s Child luncheon and announce the event’s keynote speaker: former First Lady and Preston Hollow neighbor Laura Bush.

The 31st anniversary luncheon, themed “Dream Big,” is set for April 15 at Meyerson Symphony Center with WFAA news anchor Cynthia Izaguirre as emcee. The event is chaired by Cachet Petty Weinberg along with honorary chairs Amanda and G. Brint Ryan.

“We are raising money to transform foster children’s lives by providing them access to academic and essential supports to be successful in school and in life, everything from education expenses and enrichment activities ranging from after-school tutoring, college scholarships, dance lessons and so much more,” Weinberg said.

Friends of Wednesday’s Child helps support children in foster care by providing educational opportunities and ensure kids graduate. Foster children in North Texas are 50 percent more likely to drop out of high school or not graduate on time compared to their peers.
