Here are five ways to nurture your creativity in Preston Hollow — because there is a little Picasso inside us all.

1. Design a float for W.T. White’s homecoming parade — This year’s theme is “Happy Holidays,” so bust out the candy hearts and tinsel. Tomorrow is the deadline to register your float, but the parade won’t take place until October 1. Student groups, feeder schools and related community organizations are all invited to participate. The winner, determined by Louisa Meyer, Representative Jason Villalba and Dr. Edwin Flores, will be announced October 2 at the school’s homecoming game. Email bshockley@sbcglobal.net for details.

2. Join Women in Film – Dallas (WIFD) — The mission of WIFD is to “empower, promote and mentor women in the film television and screen-based media industry.” The Preston Hollow-based nonprofit has a membership directory full of local creatives. Add your name to the list by making an annual donation. $50 gets you free or discounted admission to WIFD screenings and the opportunity to network with other industry professionals. For $100 you’ll get the same plus election voting privileges and the chance to show your work during the organization’s Spotlight Series. Click here to learn about other membership options.

3. Visit Painting with a Twist — Maybe you need a little wine to get your creative juices flowing — no judgment! Take your favorite bottle and a few close friends to Painting with a Twist on Lovers Lane. Classes start at $35.

4. Stop by Smashing Times — The muse strikes when she strikes. Luckily, walk-ins are welcome at Smashing Times in the Preston Royal Shopping Center. Robin Oldham, sister of acclaimed fashion designer Todd Oldham, owns the mosaic studio. Sessions start at $15. Click here for details.

5. Pop into Beading Dreams — We first discovered Beading Dreams in June. The shop, located on Lovers Lane, offers jewelry making classes nearly every day of the week. Learn the basics of Japanese cord braiding or fashion yourself a set of square wire bangles. Click here for more.
