New year, new trail

The second phase of the Northaven Trail expansion is (almost) underway.

Construction of the 4-mile extension from Cinderella Lane to Denton Drive, near the Elm Fork Athletic Complex and Walnut Hill DART station, is scheduled to start this January.

The project poses several challenges. The trail meanders through 24 streets, and curb ramps are required at each intersection. Royal and Marsh lanes, along with Webb Chapel Road, also require pedestrian traffic beacons.

Dallas County is overseeing the $5.7-million expansion, slated for completion in fall 2019.
