Preston Hollow neighbor and Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki will receive a hero’s send off as his 21st season with the team comes to an end this coming week.

Billboards have popped up around Dallas with a photo of Nowitzki from behind and three simple numbers: 41.21.1. Plenty of celebrations in his honor are scheduled for the week leading up to the team’s last home game on April 9 and last season game April 10.

The YMCA building at 601 N. Akard St. has been taken over by a huge mural of the German basketball player, who recently earned the title of No. 6 scorer in the NBA, that includes an augmented reality activation. Fans can visit mavs.com/AR to access instructions. Once activated, fans will see Nowitzki come to life and shoot 21 shots from his 21 seasons in Dallas.

The AR experience was created by the Groove Jones studio located in Deep Ellum.

Fans will also have the chance to buy exclusive merchandise including T-shirts, caps, commemorative patches and more from The Hangar and online at dallasmavs.shop.

The Dallas Mav’s online shop will also be selling 1,000 limited edition Nike Dirk MVP Swingman jerseys.

For April 9’s home game, fans can attend Party on the Plaza presented by Budweiser beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to walk the blue carpet on Victory Plaza before the game and can enjoy DJ and Budweiser Build-A-Bar activities before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Dirkburger and Dirkwurst will be sold during the game.

For April 10’s away game against the Spurs, fans are invited to attend the official watch party at Hero at 3090 Olive St. starting at 6 p.m.
