Hillcrest High School has a new boys varsity basketball coach.

Kelan Jones, who has been the girls head coach at South Oak Cliff High School for the past five years, replaces Von Harris.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to do some things and bring some history back to Hillcrest,” Jones tells the Dallas Morning News. “I’m looking forward to bringing back some excitement and a different style of play. Helping these kids go to college is the No. 1 thing, academically as well as athletically.”

Jones brings with him a history of wins. He was the assistant coach at Garland Lakeview in 2010 and 2011, when the teams finished runner-up at the state tournament.

Harris was the Hillcrest coach for 17 years and has been at the school for 24 years. He will now be a P.E. teacher and coach the cross country team, but he says Dallas ISD gave no reason for his replacement.
