The W.T. White Longhorns girls basketball team secured their spot in the school’s history by advancing to the regional tournament for the first time.
This is a big win for the school as neither the boys’ nor girls’ basketball teams have previously advanced to the regional tournament stage.
In the UIL Class 5A regional quarterfinals on Monday night at Lake Highlands High School, the Longhorns faced off against Mesquite Poteet Pirates with a final score of 43-29.
With a 13-game winning streak this season, W.T. White clinched two playoff victories, defeating Frisco Lone Star 45-39 in round two at RL Turner and dominating West Mesquite 57-10 in round one at W.T. White.
The Lady Longhorns will compete next in the regional semifinals on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Culwell, against the winner of the Tyler vs. Princeton matchup.
