Dr. Robert D. Londeree, a resident of Edgemere senior living, has scoresĀ of inspiring stories. To start, he was one of the first oral surgeons in Dallas. He began working toward that career during World War War II, while serving in theĀ U.S. Army ā€” that’s where he received his dental training. Later, he assumed the role of First Lieutenant and helped locate wounded soldiers in Korean battlefields.

These experiences recently earned him an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. courtesy of Honor Flight DFW, a non-profit that shows veterans around our nationā€™s capital. On September 18, Londeree and 40 other heroes departed from Dallas Love Field. He was excited about the journey.

ā€œI feel very privileged to be going on this flight,ā€ he said. ā€œWhen I first found out about it, it took me aback. I had never heard of Honor Flight DFW before and didnā€™t know such things were possible. Iā€™ve never seen the Korean War monument, although it was something I had a strong desire to do. This is a dream come true, and I am so grateful to Honor Flight DFW.ā€

In addition to the Korean War monument, Londeree visited the WWII, Vietnam, Lincoln, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps memorials. A bugler played ā€œTapsā€ for the vets and the daylong excursion concluded with a Hereos Banquet. Londeree says his military service hasĀ impacted his life in very positive ways.

ā€œOnce my military service was completed, the knowledge, skills and experience I gained on the battlefield helped me establish a successful dental practice after I returned home.ā€
