NorthPark Center is a place for shopping and dining, but there’s plenty to see, too.

The Dallas landmark has countless planters filled with seasonal plants, not to mention exhibits, displays and art of all kinds.

And it seems like the mall has been a place to view beautiful and unique things for decades.

We recently came across this video from November 1976, originally shot by WFAA but publicly available through SMU’s G. William Jones Collection via YouTube.

The video shows a father-daughter duo, Robert and Melody Schick, who posed as live mannequins in front of a crowd at NorthPark.

At the time, Robert Schick had been in the entertainment industry for 30 years, posing as a clown, Santa Claus, cowboy and the Easter bunny. But he had just recently ventured into the mannequin business.

“The most I get out of this is the love of people and the reaction from people,” Robert Schick says in the video. “There’s a lot that turns you on. It’s really fun, gives you just a great feeling, really.”

Melody had been modeling since she was 13 years old and had often played characters.

“I get a self-satisfaction of just working with the people,” Melody Schick says in the video. “I’ve had probably more grease paint in my blood than anything since I grew up with him as my father.”

At NorthPark Center on Dec. 9, 1976, Melody broke the Guinness World Record for sitting still. She sat motionless for 5 hours and 43 minutes. Her record was broken, but she reclaimed it in 1981, sitting still for 8 hours and 33 minutes.
