Chocolate chip pancakes at Original Pancake House

Chocolate chip pancakes at Original Pancake House

National Pancake Day is Friday, Sept. 26 — or, according to some sources, it’s March 4, or a day in February. But nevermind that; for true fans, every day is pancake day. Here’s where to fill up on that sugary, fluffy breakfast staple.

Original Pancake House at Midway and Northwest Highway has just about every variety you can think of: buttermilk, apple, blueberry, strawberry, chocolate chip, Swedish, banana, potato and bacon-filled pancakes. And, beginning Oct. 1, you can order pumpkin pancakes. Original Pancake House was the runner-up in our readers’ choice contest for best breakfast/brunch.

The winner of our best-of contest was Cindi’s NY Deli, which has traditional pancakes, but for something different, try the German-style with thin crepes, topped with lemon butter and powdered sugar.

Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery, which has a location in Inwood Village and in NorthPark Center, also offers bacon pancakes. Or there’s also a less meaty but still nontraditional style called nature cakes, which are buttermilk pancakes laced with granola.
