Tupinamba: Photo by Kim Leeson

After the first of the year, we can expect a surge in new restaurants opening in our neighborhood. The Preston Hollow Village development alone will account for much of that, as we recently reported.

We’ve been watching two other spots that were scheduled to open by December: the new Dish restaurant, taking over the former Soleo Mexican Kitchen space at Hillcrest and Northwest Highway; and Tupinamba, which is moving from its Inwood location to the southwest corner of Walnut Hill and Central, in the space once occupied by Performance Bicycle.

The sign is up at Dish — the Cedar Springs restaurant popular for its upscale comfort food like jalapeno mac n cheese, steak frites and bacon-wrapped shrimp. However, the opening has been pushed to the “first half of February,” owner Tim McEneny says.

We featured Tupinamba in our October cover story “Dang, that place is still there?” The family-owned Tex-Mex restaurant has been in business in Dallas for 67 years and has become known for its Tupy fried tacos. Owner Eddie Dominguez says they are “working like mad over there” at the new location to get it ready, but it likely won’t be complete until the end of January.
