pets_cat_dogCarollton-based animal shelter Operation Kindness set a new record for animals adopted in a single month. In August, 414 animals were adopted from the shelter.

Operation Kindness staff attributes the record-breaking numbers to the Adoption Days event at the Galleria, which was the first event of its kind for the shelter. For 17 days the shelter offered pet adoptions inside the shopping center.

During the event, Galleria shoppers were given the opportunity to visit with staff, interact with the animals, learn about volunteer and donation opportunities, and adopt dogs and cats.

“Being able to adopt out this many animals in one month is truly a cause for celebration,” says Sandi Laird, animal care director at Operation Kindness, via press release.

“It’s exciting to see so many dogs and cats go to forever, loving homes,” Laird says. “It also helps us continue saving lives — every time an animal is adopted out, the shelter is able to take another one in.”

Due to the success of the event, Galleria will host a second adoption event  for the shelter Nov. 29 through Dec. 24.
