For this week’s Restaurant Talk, we’re highlighting Masala Wok, just which justĀ opened in DecemberĀ a few doors down from Hopdoddy. The fast-casual restaurant, which already has several locations in Texas and Virginia, serves up Indian and Asian inspired fare. I was desperately needing to get my curry fix this weekend, so I decided to give this new Preston Center spot a whirl for a quick lunch. Peep my snazzy iPhone photos below documenting my culinary adventure:

First off, a brief disclaimer:Ā The menu is split 50-50 between Asian (think Thai-inspired fried rice dishes and noodle bowls with lots of chili and basil,) and Indian cuisine (curries, kabobs, and the like.) I didn’t try the former Asian-flavored items, so you’ll have to check out that grub for yourself.

Ā For $3 you can start off with a couple,Ā (or four for $5,)Ā samosas ā€” pastry puffs with potatoes and peas. These were filling, but a little on the bland side.

My dining companion ordered the popular Chicken Tikka Masala ($9, including naan and Basmati rice.) He was pleased with the dish. Ā This is a great starter dish for those getting newly acquainted with aromatic Indian cuisine. Many menu items can be ordered with veggies too, for the meat-averse.

And finally, here’s a picture of what I ordered, the Southern Curry (the naan was irresistible, it does not come half-eaten, fortunately.) For $9 you get a bowl of piping hot (temperature-wise) South Indian style curry, with mustard seeds, cilantro, red chili pepper, and curry leaves. I was hoping for the dish to be a little more spicy than it was, but overall it was an excellent, albeit incredibly filling lunch.
